Our Community Projects

Here are a few of the many Community Projects that The Lions Club of Papatoetoe run, sponsor, assist with or participate in:

Annual Charity Golf Tournament
Held on the first Sunday of December each year, the Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Whitford Park Country Club has been a highly successful event for the past several years.  In 2000, the club raised over $3000 for the Kidz First Hospital Healing Garden in Manukau.  In 2001, it is on Sunday 2nd December.

Annual Firewood Project

For several years, members of our club have given up their weekdays, weekends and public holidays to source, chop, split, transport, sell and deliver firewood to customers in our community.  At $50 for a cubic metre, our firewood is extremely good value and firewood sales have enabled the club to replace our aging Community Mini Bus.

Community Mini Bus
Our Community Mini Bus serves a number of schools and community organisations in the Manukau City area.  Our previous Mini Bus was loaned out some 500+ times to over 50 different organisations, and extensive fundraising enabled the club to replace the well-used but very tired Mini Bus in 2000.   Our new Mini Bus is also proving just as popular as the old one, with a number of organisations utilising this service on a regular basis.

World Service Day
In October each year, on Lions World Service Day, the club runs a midday function for the elderly in Papatoetoe.  Aptly named "The World Service Day Luncheon", the function includes a lovely hot meal, fellowship, fun, laughter and plenty of entertainment for the elderly residents of a number of local rest homes and retirement villages and those who live alone.   This luncheon has proven to be very popular over the years and will continued to be run by the club in the future.

In addition, members of our club also participate in the following activities:

* Meals on wheels delivery in the Manukau area
* Driving for the Stroke Club using our Community Mini Bus
* Lions Mints, Christmas Cakes and Christmas Hamper Sales
* Wrapping parcels at Christmas for a small donation

* National Projects such as Hart Walkers, Citrus Collection
* International Projects such as World Sight Day
